Arent these confusing times? Mask on, mask off the show must go on! The Chart House offered a stunning Redondo Beach front wedding, great food, and the best service. This lovely couple met when they were neighbors! They fell in love and well… we celebrated a wedding! When I heard they needed a quick cigarette break it was perfect time to setup portrait shots. They were such great sports and really got into it! Congrats to the both of you!

The pier in the background and soft ocean breeze cheered this ceremony on. This wedding party rocked it hard with stylish poses and great energy. Our Last Wedding!

I hope everyone is doing well during these challenging times. Unknown to us at the time but this was the last wedding we captured before they were all ordered to stay at home. The coronavirus COVID-19 has forced all of our wedding couples to either reschedule or cancel their weddings. Luckily this lovely couple after so many months of planning got move forward with their wedding.

We were once again at beautiful Coco Palms Restaurant, where the service and scenery are always magnificent. The time had just changed and sunset came just in time to shower the ceremony with its golden light. We were able to capture gorgeous sunset photos of bride and groom. It was a lovely wedding with great vibes, we were so lucky to have captured these two before lockdown. Hope everyone is safe, stay healthy, and looking forward to weddings again soon!

Yasmine + Lam Wedding at Duke's in Malibu

When I first met this couple I knew it was going to be a beautiful wedding day. We started out in Malibu at an Air BnB to get ready. Our bride's mom spent so much time and effort in making most decor by hand. This lovely couple study dance in college so you knew they would get down. We headed out to Duke's in Malibu for both ceremony and reception. I was in awe during the reception as it seemed like the whole dance department was invited! Everyone had such amazing moves and skill. It was such a fun night, thanks for the wonderful memories!

From a private elevator to waterfall pool it was such a unique experience. These lovely guests form the U.K. sure knew how to have a bloody goodtime! “That’s totally awesome dude” one guest poked a little fun at our Californian slang. Clammy hands, nervously waiting, constantly checking time, as I waited for the proposal! So I was contacted by Art, he’s from Dallas Texas and was visiting Los Angeles. He decided to pop the question at LACMA Urban Lights. So I got there early, surveyed the lighting, and waited anxiously. When they approached I had to pretend to randomly stand around with 2 camera bodies! After capturing their sweet proposal we had some fun walking around and taking sunset portraits.

Star Wars couple wed at Indian Wells Country Club

We had a blast with this Star wars dog loving couple this past weekend! The venue was Indian Wells Country Club, just a beautiful place to have a wedding. Since its Christmas we had to incorporate some of the decorations with our detail photos. Bride and groom got to hold hands over a prayer but still didn’t see each other until the ceremony. Of course the entrance music had to be Star Wars related. Our groom as if born to pose in heroic Star Wars poses, I think he was secretly practicing! What a wonderful time we had! Congrats you two!

Weddings are beautiful but super stressful! Some couples choose to get married via courthouse and have reception celebrations later. This couple opted to have a quick Airport Courthouse LAX ceremony where I got to serve as the witness. Talk about ultimate honor! My name will forever live on their marriage certificate. This ceremony lasted less than 10 minutes, it was so fast and easy. We took a quick stroll around the courthouse for portraits afterwards. Congrats to you both!

N+C Breckenridge Colorado Mountain Wedding

Over the weekend Jenn and I got to witness the beautiful wedding of our good friend Nicole and Charlie. One of Nicole’s favorite things to do is snowboard so what better place to get married than Ten Mile Station Ski Resort in Breckenridge Colorado! These two beautiful souls exchanged vows with views overlooking the mountain and wind shedding fall foliage. I must admit going from 89 feet to almost 13,000 feet in elevation over the course of 8 hours played a toll on everyone’s bodies; but that was a minor sacrifice for the opportunity to witness these two tie the knot. Congrats you two, much love and cant wait to share in your future adventures.

So when I first met up with our bride it was her and her mom. We face timed the groom to chat about how the wedding day would go. Already mom started tearing up a bit and I knew this was going to be such a heartfelt wedding. Their sister in law/wedding planner was on point and was extremely helpful. Bride and groom got ready at the Hilton Garden Inn in Montebello. It seemed like we had ample time to get everything accomplished, then like most weddings things got real and although hectic everything just fell into place. Ceremony and reception took place at Luminarias restaurant. The day flew by but the memories made will last a lifetime.

Imagine having a private beach, that fresh smell of ocean, sound of wind and waves crashing. What could be better? A wedding of course, this beautiful couple decided to get married on the beach. In the populated city of long beach lies 72^nd place beach a small beach with very little foot traffic. Sure the wind was a little strong, but the weather was great. Our bride asked me why guest threw rice, I’ve seen it before but didn’t know the meaning. It turns out throwing rice at weddings symbolize rain which brings forth good luck, fortune, and babies!

I lost my shoes! Another lesson learned. I’ve captured many weddings at Charthouse in Redondo Beach. Everything seemed normal but on the way back from portraits at the beach I stepped on a piece of glass which made me limp the rest of the shoot. Someone cleaned up and probably put my shoes away. Luckily I found a pair of sandals and finished up the wedding shoot. Next time if I ever have a beach wedding I’m for sure not going barefoot! Regardless it was a fantastic wedding well done all!

Back at the beach again! Our beautiful couple from New Orleans flew to California last time to do their engagement session at Santa Monica and there was a bomb threat! No crazy threats here just all good times. We started the day getting ready at Homewood suites by Hilton near LAX. We then headed to the Sunset in Malibu for a beautiful beach wedding. We ended the night with fun dances and a Lip sync battle between bride and groom! Cheers to a wonderful forever!

One of the sweetest birthday girls you'll ever meet! We had a ton of fun on this shoot. Her whole court was up for any poses and shenanigans. Holy Trinity Catholic Church was just outstanding, they understood the importance of photos. As long as I didn't interfere with mass service I was free to use lighting and take photos. We proceeded to the Madeo Ballroom at Double Tree by Hilton San Pedro. There was a private Mariachi band and of course our reception. Upon leaving I gave Vanessa a high five on birthday well done!

This bada$$ Hollywood couple met on set during a play. Naturally being in the film industry they were easy to photograph. I imagined so many portrait opportunities but once they got together and the chemistry flowed I just sat back and captured. They had a stylist on set to help them get dressed. I have to say everything was on point. One guest said it best, “I must be in a movie with two Bond agents!” This wedding took place at Whiskey Reds in Marina Del Rey a very fitting backdrop to a blockbuster saga!

American Korean Fusion Wedding at The Clubhouse at Anaheim Hills

Bride and groom decided to have an American and Korean wedding. The wedding was supposed to take place outdoors at the beautiful Anaheim Clubhouse but due to rain the ceremony was moved indoors. Since we were confined to indoors we had to get a little creative with our lighting setups. The couple wore traditional Korean hanboks. It was hilarious how I was trying to get them to pose in edgier modern styles but when we went to cheesy old traditional poses the bride said that was what she was waiting for! My favorite memory was during the Pyebaek ceremony. The groom’s grandmother was so excited she skipped her part and went straight into throwing chestnuts to see how many great grandkids she would have! All throughout the portrait session our bride could not stop laughing which caused me to laugh as well! I seriously had to wipe away tears as I looked through my camera to see our bride laughing up a storm.

J+M Venice Beach Engagement Session

This beautiful couple from Boston came and visited California for the weekend. They wanted to have their engagement session at Venice Beach. Throughout the session I felt their chemistry and it took my breath away! There were moments when I just stopped taking photos and just admired. We started at the Venice Beach Canals then a short walk to the Iconic Venice Beach sign. We proceeded to the graffiti wall and then to the beach with waves crashing during sunset. On the way back to the car we took a few images at the Venice beach sign again but this time at night.

The day ended with a wine tasting at Anglim Winery. Guests got to unwind and taste some world class wine.

ILFORD XP2 SUPER Single Use Camera Review

I was challenged by one of my fabulous photography groups on Facebook to shoot with a disposable 35mm film camera! You remember those? I sure do! Back in the day they were perfect for whenever you were out and forgot your camera. We didn’t have camera phones back then but I still took a ton of pictures. I did a little research and found the Ilford XP2 Super Single Use Camera with Flash (27 Exposures) black and white film. I love Ilford and C-41 b/w film makes it easy to develop.

Shutter Speed 1/100

Minimum focus is 3 feet! This threw me off as anything closer was out of focus.

Armed with this basic information I was able to get a good idea of when to use this camera.

Front of the Camera was covered with a tough clear plastic

Back of the camera was exposed, no covering.

First photos I had to take the kids out to Redondo Beach for sunset. I had them running up and down.

So I cheated a little and stacked a Lees graduated ND filter over the lens. If not I can tell you the sky would be blown out but I had a feeling the girls would be underexposed

So here if I turn the girls around I was thinking I could get their silhouettes. It appears I got more than their silhouettes but I really like the way it turned out.

As the sunset this camera handles perfectly.

Next couple images I tested the built in flash. These restaurants were very dimly lit. I was pleasantly surprised how well the flash photos came out.

We attended a birthday party and I got inside the jumper to take this shot. This cutie got too close to the camera, notice everything is in focus behind her.

Oh boy here is a real test. Being so small I was able to tuck this camera in my pocket. While capturing a wedding I took a few photos with it. No flash as I didnt want to blind the bride.

It didnt handle sun flair too well. I suspect the plastic covering added hazing.

Too bad this was taken in shade and too close I should have backed up but photos on my DSLR came out fine standing here.

We went Crawfishing in Malibu Creek. I'd say in bright sunlight and shade this camera shines. Checkout the dynamic range. It almost picked up all highlights and shadows.

second wedding on the beach in full sun. It handled pretty well.

3rd wedding due to scheduling we got to shoot portraits after sunset. The DSLR's were fine since we had flash. I didnt use flash for these images. Check out the LA city background which was correctly exposed. The wedding couple however were too dark and grainy.

After school, homework, and getting ready the sun set. Again I get grain and it's proving difficult to shoot in the dark.

This was taken overcast. I was too close to this possum so he came out blurry. He was released unharmed.

Got to shoot a portrait session with this beautiful couple. Yes full sun works!

This photo I put a ND filter over the lens and it looks like everything came out properly.

This final image was taken during a wedding I thought I had more film left as I wanted to get the wedding couple in this shot. Again the dynamic range of film is incredible. Straight out of the camera on my DSLR the shadows were black!

Over all I enjoyed using this camera. I got a little more than the advertised 27 frames (more like 29). Of the 29 frames only one came out horribly dark. I feel for amateurs who don’t understand shutter speed and aperture failure rate would be much higher. I would recommend taking photos during the day and using flash indoors. I must admit everyone who saw me take photos with this camera were happily surprised. Many didn't even know they still made them. FILM is making a comeback! What good times we shall have ahead!

C+N Chart House Beach Wedding

What a better way to start the day than a ceremony at the Charthouse with private Redondo Beach access followed by a delicious brunch reception. I was contacted literally 2 weeks before this wedding. I was already booked but luckily the schedules worked out giving me a 45 minute window for the next wedding. I'm by no means a spiritual guy but something about this wedding moved me! Both bride and groom lost a parent. They both danced with their sibling during the father/daughter and mother/son dance. I felt the emotion and a peace come over me literally through the camera! It was a great day and these two should be proud! Congrats!

The Reef Long Beach Wedding

Trip to Japan

Japan 2017! Finally we get a little break from wedding season. Wow what an amazing experience. My wife and I got to go for a week which was far too short. Yes the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, the scenery was gorgeous. What was truly life changing was the lessons we’ve learned from the people and culture. The cities from streets to restrooms were clean. People truly respected the environment and each other. Young, old, women, children, all were safe to walk the streets at night. Bicycles and other belongings could be left outside the house without fear of theft. There was no haggling, prices were fair and accurate. Although it was a hassle whenever we needed help no one turned us down. Traveling the city was easy once we figured out public transportation. These are a few photos we took documenting our trip.

This elegant wedding took place at Castaways in Burbank. I loved this couple’s attitude of just having fun, enjoying the moments, and relaxing. The Red Bull wedding favors for guest’s states "WAKE your ASS UP". Various signage would say "find your seat but your PLACE is on the dance floor" pretty much sums up this grand celebration. Crystal Cove Engagement

My longtime friend and college buddy Ken asked if I could take photos of his wedding! I love working with friends because right off the bat we have chemistry. This was the first time I’ve met his wonderful fiancé but I’ve felt like I’ve known her forever. Guess it’s either her warm personality or the fact that I’ve heard wonderful things about her from mutual friends. It’s hard to get a reservation at the Crystal Cove Cottages in Laguna Beach but my buddy managed to secure a weekend there. The sunset was foggy and gloomy but just when hope was lost the skies turned fire red which was so beautiful. After dark we proceeded to take some romantic engagement photos inside the cottage they rented. What a great experience and wonderful time! I can’t wait for the wedding.

Las Vegas Street Lights

Elysian Park is the oldest park in Los Angeles. There is a beautiful venue hidden in the park called Grace E. Simons Lodge. It was such an honor to capture this beautiful wedding at this historic location. Perhaps it was the beautiful hidden lakes, landscape, scenery that made this wedding so unique. Adding the gorgeous bride, her ever lovely smile, and the groom’s easy going demeanor made this such a wonderful celebration for all! Participants enjoyed a short but very sweet ceremony. My dear friend Yuko asked me to take photos of her and her child 4 years ago this month! Fast forward to the present she looks the same but her children have grown so fast! We ended up shooting at the same park in Redondo Beach. It was a quick photo shoot; the kids now have a mind of their own. It’s always good times hanging out with your family! See you soon!

N+D Malibu West Beach Club Wedding!

This fun Hungarian wedding took place at the beautiful Malibu West Beach Club located in Malibu California. Guests had a view of the coast only accessible for owners of beach properties. The ceremony had guests facing the bride and groom with the ocean in the background! Afterwards we were allowed to take a few pictures on the beach. During the toasts one of the uncles let me have a sip of palinka, a famous Hungarian spirit made with distilled apricots! It was 44% proof but tasted like a fine wine! Wow it was so good! The night concluded with a choreographed first dance by the bride and groom. What a beautiful well thought out wedding! Congrats you two!

Wedding at the Cabrillo Beach Bath House

We met up at the Double Tree Hotel by the Hilton in San Pedro. There I was given some time to take some pre-wedding and getting ready photos. This hotel always produces wonderful images. Great scenery and rooms! The ceremony was help on the beach of San Pedro. It was a perfect day, not too windy, not too hot! The night ended at the Cabrillo Beach Bath House. The only thing I wished we had time for was sunset photos at the beach but due to scheduling we missed the sunset. Overall it was a wonderful celebration had by all! Congrats!

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Ceremony in Downtown Los Angeles

A few images from an intimate wedding held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles in Downtown Los Angeles. I’ve passed by this Cathedral on several occasions but never got the chance to photograph it until now. The architecture was flawless, such a beautiful place. Photography was tricky as it was dark inside and photographers were not allowed past a certain point. I switched between long and wide angle lenses to grab the needed shots.

Irvine Regional Park Engagement Session

Our conversation started out like any other. How do we pose? You’re going to have to help us. We got to our first spot and as I was adjusting my settings this couple just naturally started to interact. They had a lovely chemistry and charisma about them. From that point on I just made sure my camera settings were correct and they did the rest! We had a lot of laughs, shared stories, and saw a flying peacock!!! Thanks for a great time! Downtown LA Engagement Shoot with H+E

I dunno what it was about this couple; maybe it was our connection of having a Vietnamese/Korean wedding? Maybe it was our familiarity was the Southbay area, or maybe it was just these two were amazing people! I’m not sure but it felt like we were hanging out all day and I just happened to have my camera handy. We started at the Walt Disney Concert Hall then drove to Union Station. We grabbed a sunset shot at Vista Hermosa Natural Park. We ended the night at the Los Angeles Department of Power and Water. There were too many photos to choose from! Here are a few samples, looking forward to the wedding! Congrats guys!

Grand Warner Theatre Wedding in San Pedro

The Grand Warner Theatre in San Pedro was the first sound equipped theatre in the South Bay. It was a popular destination for entertainment in the 1930’s. Being a historic place in Los Angeles made it a perfect destination for a wedding. It was really neat photographing in a historic theatre, the backdrop provided endless possibilities. The challenging part of a huge theatre was the lighting! Parts of the wedding were in pitch black darkness! Thanks for being so patient! Congrats!

Fuji's repair service on my X100T

As an Avid photographer I try to take my Canon SLR equipment everywhere! From photoshoots to personal trips there are times when it just doesn’t make sense to lug all that gear. That’s where my nifty Fuji X100T comes in. It gives me amazing images all packed in a little body. I take my Fuji to places/shoots I dare not take my SLR! So needless to say when my Fuji X100t’s shutter button wasn’t working properly I was pretty bummed. The shutter button was stuck and hard to press. Still under Manufacturer’s warranty I decided to mail in the camera for repair, link here.

I had mixed emotions about sending in my camera not knowing how much it was going to cost to repair. If Fuji said I had to pay for repairs due to my mishandling of the camera I'd have no options but to pay for the repair. To my surprise the camera was returned to me in about a week. Fuji had replaced the top plate of my camera, no questions asked, and free of charge! Wow I must admit Fuji has impressed me and I will continue to purchase Fuji products for life!

Got the camera well packed and a description of repairs done.

Ava + Cliff Maternity Shoot

I met up with this lovely couple for a maternity session in Palos Verdes. We started at Malaga Cove Plaza and made our way to the Roessler Point Gazebo. Ending the day along the beautiful shore where people were reeling up fish! The whole time mom was never complaining and was able to hike the whole way! I on the other hand had major issues! Congrats on your first baby!

Brooke + Rosenberg Wedding at the Grand Long Beach

There couldn't have been a nicer wedding couple out there! Seriously these two were amazing people who truly appreciated everything! This wedding took place at the Grand in Long Beach. Originally it was set to take place outside but due to the crazy weather it took place indoors. If I didn't say anything no one would know because the last minute execution of ceremony decor was spot on! It didn't matter where we were, everyone was there to celebrate the union of two lovely individuals! Cheers guys, photos will be delivered soon!

Some last minute detail shots I met the groom 15 minutes before game time!

I had 2 minutes with these grooms men before the ceremony started! We got in two poses and it was off the the races!

The beautiful decor went unnoticed as these two stole the spotlight!

So I was after this shot but when they first ended the ceremony the bubbles were sporadic and the couple wasn't centered. I got the awesome officiant to call everyone back to do this over!

The crazy thing is I'm privledged to hear heartfelt speeches almost every weekend. However between shooting and getting home I forget what was said. I just remember this guy gave an epic speech! Well done!

Sophia + Ozzie Blomgren Ranch Wedding

You generally won’t get a good reaction if you tell a bride that her dress, flowers, and pretty much everything else was going to be 2 hours late! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bride handle situations so calmly. Sophia always had a smile on her face all the way through the wedding! Nothing was going to phase her. When asked how she’s taking everything so well, she simply said “I understand things are going to be out of my control, I’ll just smile, and enjoy the day!” Wow I was floored and amazed! This beautiful wedding took place at the Blomgren Ranch in Santa Clarita CA. Since the venue reminded me of an old charming western set we decided to shoot in that kind of theme.

I found this dictionary/giant book on a shelf and decided to use it. Their talented videographer added the acorns. I love synergy! Check out this sign, it's so awesome, this couple has a wonderful sense of humor.

Details details details, we were given over two hours! I never get this much time for details!

The dress, we had to be so careful! There was a ton of nails and dirt everywhere!

I like to work on group shots first so we can release the wedding party. These guys were hungry and thirsty but sacrificed for the bride/groom.

Ladies did such a great job. Running around in dirt with dresses and makeup aint easy!

This groom was so charismatic and hilarious!

I'm a sucker for sun flair and the sun flared!!!

Close to a silhouette shot, I decided to bring back some of the bride and groom detail for more interest.

Darkness and festivities came it was time for some off camera lighting.

This photo does no justice. The venue in person was so beautiful at night!

Sometimes the same photos of dancing lit with flash are boring. I like to mix in some long exposure, flash, and camera movement.

Ok have you ever had a fresh churro, I mean fresh out of the fryer!? They had a churro cart and I had this for the first time! Woooow!

NYC & East Coast Street Photography

With camera's in my backpack and a plane ticket in hand off I went to the East Coast for a family vacation! It was tough trying to grab street photography photos while keeping up with family. The difference between street photography in New York vs Los Angeles is the compact landscape. New York appears to be more dense than LA thus creating people in closer quarters and moments seem to start as fast as they end. I felt people moving faster and more aware of their surroundings. With the endless supply of billboards, signage, and buildings it was just a matter of finding interesting subjects. I used both my canon DSLR and Fuji x100t for these images.

Sometimes moments happen so fast I'm forced to fire from the hip. I saw some people having a conversation and

my own reflection.

Although out of focus I loved the expression he gave me as I walked by.

Everyone was on a big screen so they did'nt notice me taking a photo of them

Something about this photo strikes me as being odd I can't put my finger on it.

By Far my favorite shot of the set. I saw 5 NYPD Vehicles pull up on the sidewalk so something good might happen! I waited for 10 mins but nothing was going on, then all of the sudden this girl walks into my shot to take her sweater off giving me this great look.
